How Education Transforms Lives: Stories from Akshar Kaksha

Introduction

The role of education in one’s life is that of an enabler, it moves a person from study material to opportunities and from the school bench to the vast world. It is one’s chance, offered and guaranteed. Every single day, the staff and children of Akshar Kaksha, a project managed by the Prazna Foundation. Witness the impact of education, especially with children coming from Jaipur’s slum areas. An experience that is etched in our memories is of Deepa Kumari, an eight-year-old whose life is gradually shifting towards the better, all thanks to her schooling.

Deepa’s Story: A Family That’s Always Tried

Deepa lives with her parents and three older siblings in one of the slums of Jaipur. Deepa’s father works as a daily wage labourer, whilst her mother is a housemaid. Their combined earnings are low as it is, and with four children to support. Even the most basic essentials were a challenge. Their children’s education was out of the question because the fight for survival was more pressing.

Deepa, along with her siblings, began attending the free daily classes offered by the Prazna Foundation at Akshar Kaksha. The foundation provides an opportunity for children from low-income families to attend such sessions. At these classes, the children receive an education and have a safe place to grow.

Discovering Deepa’s Hidden Talent

During one of the educational activities for students at Akshar Kaksha, our team saw Deepa doing a perfect cartwheel. Her agility, spirit, and determination were truly remarkable. We immediately knew she had something special in her.

Seeing her natural ability, we at Prazna Foundation enrolled her in Aryans Sports School this year. Now, she not only studies in a proper school but also takes professional gymnastics classes.

From Slum Classroom to Gymnastics Training

Deepa is presently enrolled in a  school and also does gymnastics with proper coaching. What began as a small cartwheel in a slum classroom has now become her vision for the future. She still amazes her teachers and coaches with her commitment and skill.

The tale of Deepa highlights the profound impact of receiving timely and appropriate assistance. Learning gave her hope, guidance, and a brighter path ahead.

This story reflects the change that comes with importance of girls education. Girls in slums and other underdeveloped regions are the most affected to dropout of schools due to lack of funds, social barriers, and domestic chores. The impact of educating girls is wide reaching. When a girl matures into a woman, the benefits she receives from her education help her whole family and community, raising their level of life little by little.

The tale of Deepa serves as a wonderful example of what can be achieved through proper education and the right opportunities.

More Than Education: Creating Awareness

Along with Akshar Kaksha, Prazna Foundation works to spread menstrual hygiene awareness  in slum communities and government schools. This initiative ensures that girls are properly educated early on, instilling in them the necessary knowledge and assurance concerning their welfare. In the case of children such as Deepa, this implies gaining knowledge that extends beyond formal education to include lessons on dignity, personal care, and empowerment.

One Story, Many Dreams

The achievements of Deepa provide a glimpse into the vast pool of undiscovered potential residing within the students at Akshar Kaksha. Every student is brimming with untapped ability, and having access to the right resources. Allows them to envision and enjoy an improved future.

Deepa’s story illustrates so uniquely how education works magic, it’s not just about excelling academically but unlocking doors to avenues beyond imagination. With the right support, Deepa is all set to soar higher. Turning her childhood passion from cartwheels into professional gymnastics into a career.

As proven by Deepa’s story, children’s greatness lies latent; what they require is that someone trusts their abilities. At Prazna Foundation’s Akshar Kaksha, we are committed to finding more children like Deepa. Helping them continue their education, and supporting them in turning their dreams into reality. Because the moment a child is educated, an entire society progresses.
